NOT MISSING THE PURPOSE
A short story...
I left my house very early yesterday to meet up with the first bus. It hasn't been easy getting to work on time due to the horrible traffic on the Lagos-Ogun route.
Despite all my hurry, I arrived later than I expected, the cue for the bus ticket was already too long. There I gave up on getting to the office on time... It was that bad.
I stood on the cue feeling so angry at myself.
I looked around to see the multitude already up and running this early, don't these people sleep? I asked myself.
I quickly move to stand behind the last woman on cue. I couldn't see her face clearly because the streetlight closest to us was faulty, but I could notice the early morning energy and normal Lagos rush wasn't in her.
Her countenance was looking too sad for my liking.
I was tempted to ask what was wrong but then I realized she could either be new to the city or down health-wise.
I carefully followed the cue behind her trying to restrict myself from asking until I hear a sniffing, and then I realized she had gotten to the verge of what was weighing her down. I carefully lean closer to her.
Are you ok?? I asked
Not, I said to myself since I didn't get any response.
I moved a step away to avoid intruding into her private life, besides I don't know her, I thought.
The sniffing continues, but this time I could see the movement of her entire body. I went forward again this time gently placing my hands on her shoulder.
Are you sick? What's wrong with you ma? I asked again.
Here I had a close look at her, pale tender looking face, she wore very light make-up and had dark glasses on.
I have missed it in my miserable life... she muttered under her breath.
To be continued...
